Why Restorative Yoga
I discovered Restorative Yoga a couple of years ago after my Yin Yoga Teacher Certification. I was invited to replace a teacher and she explained briefly how a Restorative yoga lesson was built. The feeling after giving a Restorative yoga was a completely new experience for me, specially seeing the transformation in the energy of the students, before and after the lesson.
We could say that Restorative yoga is the sister of Yin yoga. While this last one is more focus on the stretch of the muscles, joints and fascia, Restorative is a form of deep relaxation and meditation. No matter how I try to explain it, the best way to describe Restorative is trying it yourself.
Restorative Yoga as an invitation
Restorative yoga is an invitation to let go of everything that is awaiting for you and welcome the present moment, becoming aware of your breath and body presence. The asanas, yoga positions, are the traditional ones but extremely supported by bolsters, blankets, blocks, sand bags, belts and more blankets/towels. During the exercises we stimulate the well functioning of the Parasympathetic Nervous System. In a way we say to the brain, stop making efforts, contracting muscles here and there, and slow down, just be!!!
This yoga form is ideal for people having stress, back issues, burn out, depression, menopauze, extreme fatigue, issues with menstruation and more.
This is what Restorative Yoga does for you:
-
Relaxes both mental and physical bodies
-
Releases anxiety feelings
-
Helps you to get better sleep
-
Boosts your respiratory system
-
Supports the Parasympathetic funtion
-
Reduces chronic pain
